So who am I?
Hi I’m Alice! I’m a birth and postnatal doula based East London - sometimes further afield.
When I'm not banging on about birth, you will find me cooking up a storm in the kitchen, practising yoga or cycling around town.
My journey to becoming a doula
My path to becoming a doula began with a deep fascination for the natural processes of life, which I explored during my Biology degree. This background has given me a solid foundation for understanding the statistics around birth and confidently pointing you towards trustworthy, evidence-based research. It's about empowering you with reliable information, so you can make informed choices.
In 2022, I completed my doula training and then furthered my skills through the Doula UK mentoring programme. I'm also a qualified KGHypnobirthing teacher, and I've had the privilege of supporting families through a variety of birth experiences, including home births, accidental free birth, hospital births, and supporting those navigating 'higher risk' labours. This has included helping people understand and determine absolute risk in situations like gestational diabetes, high BMI, and premature birth. It's been incredibly rewarding to support individuals in making confident decisions that feel right for them.
What kind of doula am I?
I'm a doula who blends nurturing, practical support with a strong, calm presence. My goal is to empower you to have the birth experience you desire, whether you have a large support network or are navigating this journey solo. I believe everyone deserves to feel confident and comfortable, and I'm here to provide that foundation.
I understand that pregnancy and postpartum aren't always picture-perfect. Having worked as a crisis counsellor with Shout, I'm acutely aware of the emotional complexities that can arise during this transformative time. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can openly share your feelings, anxieties, and concerns. I'm dedicated to supporting your emotional well-being, helping you navigate challenges, and providing you with the tools to feel grounded.
I'm not afraid to advocate for your rights. I'm a strong, yet compassionate, advocate who will ensure your voice is heard and your wishes are respected. I can remain calm and focused even in intense situations, allowing me to be a steady and reliable support person for you.
Beyond the practical and emotional support, I bring a holistic approach. I believe in the power of nourishing food, drawing inspiration from Ayurvedic and Chinese traditions to support your wellbeing. I also value the restorative power of nature, yoga, and even the invigorating chill of cold water swimming. These personal passions inform my approach, emphasising the importance of overall wellness during pregnancy and beyond.

“I debated whether to get a doula but as I was quite anxious about the prospect of a birth I thought it may be helpful and with the benefit of hindsight I’m so glad I made the decision to get a doula and that I picked Alice.
The prep sessions in the run up to the birth were really helpful. I found it really helpful to be able to talk through the different aspects and prep for birth with someone and to have someone to help navigate and digest all the information that is available.
In the end my daughter ended up arriving slightly prematurely (at 36 weeks) without Alice’s support I suspect I would have had a total panic at the prospect of an early labour but the prep sessions, including a last minute one on the day my waters broke really helped me stay calm and feel as confident as I could be in the circumstances.
Alice was also very kind, flexible and accommodating and made herself available notwithstanding the fact she wasn’t officially yet “on call.”
In terms of the labour itself there were a couple of complications which meant my “Plan A” birth plan wasn’t possible, but the fact that I had spoken to Alice about my preferences was really helpful both in terms of informing my own decision process during labour but it also allowed Alice to gently challenge and questions some of the recommendations from the doctors - as we were beginning to go down a path of fairly significant intervention (ventouse, forceps etc.).
Alice helped me have the confidence to ask for a little more time before additional medical procedures were performed and in the end I was able to give birth with fairly minimal medical intervention - I have no doubt this would not have been the result without Alice, as such I genuinely believe I had a tangibly more positive birth experience as a result of the preparation in advance and the support received on the day. A huge thank you.”
